A Fate Inked in Blood is a riveting starter to what will no doubt be another steamy, wondrous fantasy series by Jensen. The lore is complex and the characters are quick to cut, with a cliffhanger that left me hungry for the next installment.”

"A Fate Inked in Blood introduces us to Freya, who is married to an awful king and wants nothing more than to be a warrior to fight and prove her worth to her family. When her husband is killed and she finds herself thrust into a journey across unknown lands to fulfill a destiny forced upon her at birth by the Norse Gods, she learns the truth: she is a shield maiden. Along with her new husband and his adult son, Bjorn, the journey she finds herself on is immersive and intriguing, learning about Norse mythology and the trials she finds herself in are awe inspiring and action packed. She harbors a forbidden romance with Bjorn, which complicates and fuels her to continue this voyage to find her true fate, as it is foretold that she weaves her own. Danielle L. Jensen’s writing is so enjoyable and reads like a fantasy movie in my head as we join Freya on her quest for the truth as fights for justice to write her own story. Fans of the “Romantasy” genre will love this story."--Reveiwed by Sallie

"Danielle L Jensen’s newest title, A Fate Inked in Blood, contains all of the best parts of fantasy romance - political intrigue, prophecies, meddling gods, and of course, the flirty, but broody, hot warrior. This story is face-paced, plot-driven but still has intriguing and complicated characters. Freya, our FMC, is desperately trying to find her place when she is thrust in the middle of power-hungry men trying to use her for their own gain. Danielle portrays Freya’s conflicting emotions and thoughts extremely well. Our supporting characters are also well-developed and add a lot of depth to the story. It was so easy to get lost into this story, and Danielle’s storytelling is some of the best I have read. She provides great world-building and immerses us into Norse mythology. We are left on a bit of a cliffhanger, and I am very excited for the next book in this series (and to get some answers!)."--Reviewed by Hannah

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A shield maiden blessed by the gods battles to unite a nation under a power-hungry king—while fighting her growing desire for his fiery son—in the first book of a Norse-inspired fantasy romance duology from the author of The Bridge Kingdom series.

“THE must-read fantasy of 2024!”—Jennifer L. Armentrout, author of From Blood and Ash

Bound in an unwanted marriage, Freya spends her days gutting fish but dreams of becoming a warrior. And of putting an axe in her boorish husband’s back.

Freya’s dreams abruptly become reality when her husband betrays her to the region’s jarl, landing her in a fight to the death against his son, Bjorn. To survive, Freya is forced to reveal her deepest secret: She possesses a drop of a goddess’s blood, which makes her a shield maiden with magic capable of repelling any attack. And it’s been foretold that such magic will unite the fractured nation of Skaland beneath the one who controls the shield maiden’s fate.

Believing he’s destined to rule Skaland as king, the fanatical jarl binds Freya with a blood oath and orders Bjorn to protect her from their enemies. Desperate to prove her strength, Freya must train to fight and learn to control her magic, all while facing perilous tests set by the gods. The greatest test of all, however, may be resisting her forbidden attraction to Bjorn. If Freya succumbs to her lust for the charming and fierce warrior, she risks not only her own destiny but the fate of all the people she has sworn to protect.
