Staff Reviews
"Aaron enters Miss Greer’s 2nd grade class as a struggling reader. We see him become less and less of himself as he navigates life and school filled with imagination and loads of talent. It takes his empathetic teacher and class to see the creative brilliance in his mind and his heart. Andrea Beaty just keeps getting better and better. Her poetic use of cadence is so clever and brilliant and David Robertson’s illustrations are magnificent. I cry every time I read this book." Ages 5-7+ --Reviewed by Robin
Aaron Slater loves listening to stories and dreams of one day writing them himself. But when it comes to reading, the letters just look like squiggles to him, and it soon becomes clear he struggles more than his peers. When his teacher asks each child in the class to write a story, Aaron can't get a single word down. He is sure his dream of being a storyteller is out of reach... until inspiration strikes, and Aaron finds a way to spin a tale in a way that is uniquely his.
